Sunday, 5 Jul, 2009
Athletes In Action (AIA) ‘Building spiritual movements through sport’ has just successfully run the first Ultimate Training Camp in Australia. 25 elite athletes and support staff from around the world converged into Sydney this week for the seven day camp held at the Rydges and Syndey university.
A mix of athletes including basketballers, rugby players, wrestlers, discuss throwers, hockey players, windsurfers attended to learn how to train and compete as a follower of Jesus. The camp was designed to challenge athletes physically, mentally and spiritually while based on 5 Biblical principles challenging athletes to ask themselves:
- Who or what do I worship?
- What motivates me?
- How do I grow?
- How do I deal with pain?
- Does it matter how I live today?
The UTC was not just about listening to Biblical talks but athletes learned to apply the principles through discussion, the sharing of testimonies, lab sessions and the S.P.E.C.I.A.L.
Allison said in her exausted and bruised state at the end of the camp,“The SPECIAL was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. 16 hours of sport out of 18 was the most physically draining event of my life. Working together with my team, applying the principals we had learnt all through the night really pushed our physical, mental and spiritual limits. I have a new motivation and love for my sport thanks to this camp and I cant wait to apply what I have leant in real competition”.
