NEWS FLASH! Allison to Windsurf Across Bass Strait

Now that Allison is back in Australia, she has her sights set on attempting to sail her windsurfing board across Bass Strait in record time unassisted. The 240km stretch between Tasmania and mainland Australia is notoriously rough and known as one of the most treacherous water ways in the world.

Nick Maloney windsurfed across Bass Strait in 1998 in 22 hours being the first and only windsurfer to achieve such a feat.  Following this was Michael Blackburn’s record breaking run in 2005 sailing across on his Laser dingy boat in 13 hours. Allison hopes to set a new world speed record across the Strait in December this year, weather and funding permitting. “I have wanted to do a travel story, or a long distance event for some time, but due to RS:X Olympic commitments, I have been unable to focus on anything else.” Allison will sail from Stanley in the North West corner of Tasmania to Tidal River in Wilsons Promontory, Victoria.
